EXPLORE PATAGONIA - Ski in Argentina
The Explore Patagonia Tour spends 9 days deep in the heart of Argentina’s Patagonian Andes making stops at Cerro Catedral, Cerro Bayo, and La Hoya. Our trip starts and finishes in Bariloche, where guests are treated to thousands of acres of inbounds and offpiste ski terrain and breathtaking lake vistas at Cerro Catedral.
Bariloche has a plethora of superb restaurants, nightspots and boutiques making it a sophisticated, world-class adventure based community. We take a day trip and travel along the shores of Lago Nahuel Haupi to Villa Angostura and spend our day exploring the uncrowded slopes of Cerro Bayo, and its easily accessed backcountry terrain. Next we road trip south along Ruta 40, where we stop at the 42nd parallel and the town of El Bolson to visit its famous artisan market and enjoy a few micro brews and lunch at the local cerveceria.
Following the famous narrow gauge steam train route writer Paul Theroux coined the Old Patagonian Express, we arrive in Esquel, a gaucho and Welsh influenced country town. Situated where the expansive Patagonian steppes meet the Andes and near to the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid homesteaded, Esquel is our gateway for 3 days of skiing and snowboarding at La Hoya. A true Argentine gem, La Hoya offers us endless backcountry opportunities and stunning views into Parque Nacional Alerce. We spend our evenings sharing matte, wine, and mouth watering Argentine beef. We return to Bariloche for one more big night out and a final day on the slopes at Cerro Catedral. Que Bueno!!!

Trip Itinerary
Day 1 - ARRIVAL IN BARILOCHE
Guests must arrange flights to San Carlos de Bariloche airport from Buenos Aires. Here they are met by CASA guides and taken to your lakeside Bariloche accommodation. Tonight we have a trip orientation and welcome dinner at one of Bariloche’s local breweries. Early arrivals are welcome and CASA guides can assist with logistics.
Day 2 - SKI/RIDE CERRO CATEDRAL
We spend our first ski day at Cerro Catedral. This modern ski center with a distinctly European feel features over 3,000 acres of on piste terrain, extensive lift-accessed backcountry steeps, and some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable. The Powder Gods have been very good to us here. In the evenings we experience Bariloche’s lively nightlife and excellent eateries featuring local Patagonian trout, lamb and beef.
Day 3 - VILLA LA ANGOSTURA - CERRO BAYO
We roadtrip to the lakeside village of Villa la Angostura and the slopes of Cerro Bayo. This small town vibe, boutique ski center accesses lots of uncrowded powdery terrain. Located on the north shore of Lago Nahuel Huapi, across from Bariloche, Cerro Bayo has magnificent lake vistas and true Argentine charm. On the way home we stop at our favorite road house Parrilla for a true guacho culinary experience.
Day 4 - TRAVEL TO ESQUEL
Our journey south on Ruta 40 runs deep into Patagonia and its snow covered mountains, barren steppes, and endless pampas to Esquel, our gateway to La Hoya ski center. En route we stop in the artisan inspired town of El Bolson for lunch before continuing through this vast wind sculpted landscape known for its huge ranches, guacho culture and where Butch Cassidy roamed. We spend 4 nights in Esquel, Chubut’s capital city.
Days 5-7 - SKI/RIDE LA HOYA
Receiving some of the coldest and driest powder in the Patagonian Andes, plenty of big mountain riding, loads of terrain features and a genuine, laid back vibe make La Hoya a highly recommended Argentine visit. For 3 days we explore this snow jewel while enjoying it’s local Patagonian hospitality and dramatic wild scenery.
Day 8 - RETURN TO BARILOCHE
Depending on weather conditions there will be the opportunity for a morning ski at La Hoya before returning north on Ruta 40 and Bariloche for a final night of feasting on Argentine beef and malbec.
Day 9 - DEPARTURE DAY
After breakfast CASA guides will arrange transportation to the airport or Cerro Catedral depending on guests departing flights from San Carlos de Bariloche.
